A Drive in the Country

Yesterday the man of the house decided we should go out, we seem to have been spending a lot of time around home lately, gardening and working on the shed.

We ended up going to Warburton and having a delicious morning tea at the 'Patchwork Teahouse' . This was my first visit there and it is a delightful shop. I'll have to go back and do a little retail therapy when I'm with like minded quilters.

The road did not have a lot of traffic and we managed to spot a lyrebird as we drove along. It's a lovely trip driving through the forest of gums and tree ferns.

A visit to the Tourist Information Centre and Museum was very interesting. I hadn't realised how many floods there have been over the years.

With the bush fires earlier this year and then all the rain we've had recently, the town water in Warburton and surrounding areas is unfit to drink. The local council have a number of large water tanks placed in public areas all clearly marked as 'drinking water'.

Birthdays and Quilts

This is the quilt I'm working on for my SIL b'day next month, in fact it's only a couple of weeks away now. I'll have to search through the stash to see if I have any of the dark navy left for the binding. It should be there somewhere, just where, is the question?????

It has been a cold and wet week, freezing temperatures and even a little snow.

It has also been my lqs 20th birthday and to celebrate they had 20% off everything in the shop. Of course I had to pay one or two visits. The bolt of fabric is for backings, no excuse now not to finish some of the tops inhabiting the sewing room.

I didn't buy very much, a little fabric, some wadding and basting spray. I did help my friend to enhance her stash though, lol.

Birthday Parties

Last Saturday, July 7th, was my mother-in-laws 90th birthday. Sixteen of us gathered together to celebrate with a birthday lunch in Melbourne. It was a very enjoyable day, lots of laughter and funny family stories. It was a great chance to catch up with those we don't see regularly.

July 5th is our middle daughters birthday so we had a double celebration.

July and August are busy birthday times in our family, with six birthdays in as many weeks. Next month both my second sister and my brother's wife will be celebrating their 50th birthdays. Yesterday I decided to give my SIL a quilt (she pointed out recently that I'd given nearly everyone else one and she didn't have one!).

With this in mind I went and had a look at my WIPs (works in progress) and found the perfect top. It is blue & cream, embroidered teapots & cups and the blocks are set in attic windows. I've sandwiched it, and started quilt. I'll post a picture or two when I get a chance to take some.

The embroidered blocks are from an internet swap I was in a couple of years ago.
